Which vodkas are triple distilled

Do not shoot it. Just sip. Many men have claimed that you will begin feeling the effect of vodka after your third shot. You can mix vodka with soda water, cranberry juice or lemon juice to make a refreshing cocktail. Other juices like pineapple and tomato also work. The most recognised in the range is probably the red label, with its hints of sweetness in its charcoal background. It might not be the most refined vodka on our list, but Stoli has soul. Blended with natural spring water and filtered thirty-five times, the clear vodka is a standout. The flavoured stuff is also great in cocktails, with Feijoa, Kiwi and Honey being favourites.

Potato vodka is not held in such high regard as grain vodkas, but Chopin has helped to change that preconception. Whereas, a lot of its competitors are trying their hand in the flavoured-vodka market, Chopin is keeping things clear, and instead has released rye-based and wheat-based alternatives.

Why not compare Chopin with Ketal One, and see what master-distillers can do with the humble potato. It hails from the beautiful county of Herefordshire in England, and the potatoes from which it is made are grown on the same land as the distillery itself.

An incredibly clean spirit is produced through a distillation process that includes both copper pot and continuous column stills. Chase is a leader in the premium-vodka market, and also has some unique flavoured variants, which include Marmalade, Oak Smoked and Rhubarb. There is a slight hint of spiciness from the grains in this Russian vodka, and that only adds to its allure. There was also talk of litchi fruit somewhere in there. Five times distilled. This distillate is married with water that has itself been filtered five times.

This is then filtered four times. Then three stages of taste testing. The result is one bloody good vodka. If more people had a couple of shots of Christiania in their vodka-tonics once in while though, that might change. The arctic spring waters might have something to do with that, as might being distilled six times and filtered through charcoal.

The six-times distilled French wheat is combined with fresh spring water to produce vodka that is crisp and clean and simple. The skull staring off your shelf doubles as a piece of art, just as intended by the co-founders of the brand, actor Dan Aykroyd and fine artist John Alexander.

Whilst, some might consider the bottle a bit of a gimmick, the vodka is anything but. These guys too have ventured into the flavoured-vodka market, and whilst the amaretto vodka is the most notable, there is also coconut, peach, pineapple and red berry. Cocktail aficionados are well-advised to invest in some of these for their cabinets. What really sets Absolut apart for us though, is there innovation when it comes to flavours. This is a vintage vodka — a world first — and produced by a doctor no less.

Mark Kauffman selects only the best wheats from around Russia for his mash. Fourteen times distilled and then filtered twice means that this vodka is subtle and delicate, and well worth a dabble if you have reason to treat yourself. Now, go out and buy it, and see how long you can keep it on your shelf.

The alcohol is cycled up and down until the vapors are condensed and released, eliminating any impurities. The vapors move into the upper still heads where these are concentrated. The extracted materials move to the lower chamber and are discarded; some of the residues may be used as livestock feed. The final step is filtration and bottling the alcohol.

Once the distillation procedure is completed, the alcohol is filtered through activated carbon to eliminate aromatic residue to make it neutral. Dilution using demineralized or distilled water is done until the desired alcohol content is reached. Final filtration is done before the alcohol is left for resting and then bottled. The simple answer is that the more the number of distillations, the greater the chance of removing impurities from the spirit, which provides a cleaner flavor. Consider distillation as a purification and concentration procedure.

With every distillation, the natural fats and other chemicals from the raw materials are removed along with the distillate's water. As more impurities are removed, the alcohol becomes concentrated, providing an improved taste.

When done correctly, the first and the last ten percent are eliminated as impurities. Single distilled vodka yields 80 percent, and you can taste the difference in its quality.

Triple distilled vodka yields 51 percent and smoother in taste. Also, triple distilled vodka causes less of a hangover. Some drink lovers argue that triple distillation removes the flavor, so they cannot taste the actual flavor from the fats and impurities contained naturally in the raw materials known as congeners.

These substances are produced during the fermentation process and include minor quantities of chemicals like esters, methanol, aldehydes, acetone, tannins, and acetaldehyde. A few others may prefer single distilled vodka based on their personal taste and preferences. However, remember that the more the number of distillations, the higher is the cost, which will make the vodka more premium.

A triple distilled vodka is chemically purer but also costlier than a single distilled vodka. One of the premium vodka brands, Absolut is produced using winter wheat and water drawn from a well in Ahus.

With triple distillation, Absolut vodka is pure and comprises only natural ingredients and no added sugar. Whether drunk neat or as a cocktail, Absolut vodka is quite popular among young and sophisticated drink lovers around the globe. It is not only perceived as refined luxury alcohol but the soft and smooth texture makes it a popular base choice for several cocktails.
