Everything here is mechanical. However, the more you pedal the bike, with less or no maintenance in the details, the more likely your BMX bike will make noise. The more you ride your BMX bike the more likely the lubing will dry up. All you have to do if you ever encounter this issue is to tighten the stem bolts.
A BMX bike whose chain has a tight tension will more than likely rattle at one point in time. Even a poor adjustment on the derailleur can lead to the same.
That noise could be because something loose in the pedals, worn out bearings, or a washer that needs an upgrade. And in such a case, you can expect the bottom bracket bearings to collect dust.
Commonly known as toe-in, the squeal can be quit annoying ach time the brake pads press against the rim. The noise coming from the brake is easy to fix. If this is the case, clean the rim thoroughly to fix the problem. A BMX bike makes noise when you coast because of tension in the pawls. More often than not, the spring-loaded pawls fail to catch when the tension is higher. The clicking sound is a side-effect of the operation of the ratchet-and-pawl mechanism that allows the freewheel or freehub to transfer drive in one direction but not in the other, which is what allows you to coast.
Make sure the axle is straight in the dropouts. Clicking from the back wheel while pedaling can come from the drivetrain. The worn parts no longer mesh together correctly and can make a clicking sound while pedaling, particularly when you push hard on the pedals. Aside from the whoosh of the tires on the road, and the clicking of the freewheel, a bicycle should be silent. If your bike makes other noises, or clunk or lurch, it is a sign of a problem.
Most of the noise comes from pawls on the freewheel hitting against the splines on the engagment surfaces which makes up the racheting unit. The reason this is desirable is that more pawls and engagement points means faster engagement when you start pedaling.
Can I use WD to lube my bicycle chain? The smaller sprocket helps when rolling into bowls so you do not clip your sprocket on the coping of the bowl also I think you can speed up quicker with a smaller gear combo.
Creaking sounds are associated with hub bearings, especially if they have accumulated too much mud and dirt. So, if you notice creaks from your bike, you know they can be blamed on your uncleaned bike bearing. If the noise that is disturbing you is coming from the pedal, some simple solution is to keep regular checks on it.
If the pedal is not tightened properly and attacked with the cranks, detach the pedals completely and keep them aside. Grease the connection and then attach it back in place. Similarly, together with the pedal, run a check on the crank bolts. Unscrew the assemble to grease the crank properly before putting it in place again. Tighten the crank bolt with care, maintaining torque regulations. A chain that is not attached in place will make all sorts of noises.
To fix this, unscrew the axle bolts. After winding the crank bolts, investigate the chain. Look if the chain tension is too tight or the chain is moved from the place. Use a specialized dry lubricant on the chain. After finishing the job, constrict the axle nut tightly. Usually, the metal contacts are worn out, but many times, your BMX is simply making sounds for loosened parts. Be sure to check the handlebar bolts, brakes, and seat posts, and use a hex wrench to screw the bolts tightly in place.
This can cause the bearings to make popping or squeaky noises. For this reason, it is recommended that you detach the bearing or cranks, and clean them thoroughly. Also, remember to re-grease them before screwing them in place. For side-to-side distance, make sure there is no more than 1 to 1. Any more than that, tighten the crank using a hex wrench. Generally, it is often said that in a BMX bike, one must apply grease anywhere where metal is in contact with another metal.
However, that is not true and few parts should not be treated with lubricants. If you have been in the biking community, you must be aware of an age-old joke that says, the expensive bikes are the loudest.
